Using Ethanol
Ethanol is a clean, renewable, high performance fuel for your vehicle. Every U.S.-manufactured make and model is covered under warranty for use up to a 10 percent blend of ethanol (called E10).
Clean.
- This clean-burning fuel reduces carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon tailpipe emissions.
- An oxygenate that burns more cleanly and more completely than gasoline.
Renewable.
- Made from corn and other crops.
- Energy source renewable by energy from the sun, rain, and soil.
- New supply of ethanol "grown" each year, unlike millions of years needed to produce fossil fuel-based energy sources.
High performance.
- Pure 100% ethanol has an octane rating of 113.
- Adding 10% ethanol to gasoline raises the overall octane by 2 to 3 points.
- Lower BTU value than gasoline.
- Burns cooler.
- Less wear and tear on vehicle engine; longer engine life.
